This had to be the best Paris trip thus far. I owe the success to avoiding the runway shows and just focusing on looking at actual product and shmoozing a bit with people doing big things.
With the fast growing trade show culture, Capsule in particular, a lot of stores are becoming more and more similar. People are buying the same brands and sitting them next to other similar brands that are in every store similar to itself. How did it get like this? This trip was a real wake up call to really branch away from that “scene.”
With the coming of the new location, my eyes and ears are peeled to new brands. However, the new location will also bring breadth and depth to some of our household names. Gitman Brothers Vintage and Wings + Horns both looked great for SS12.
Can’t wait for this psycho bunny print.
Lots of super bright oxfords to layer under sweaters and blazers.
Wings + Horns introduces a new Japanese fabric onto polos and shorts and jacket linings.
Other highlights to get excited about: the anti-fit in chino fabric, the classic chino - cropped, corded cloth denim in a lighter weight fabric, lots of static jersey and more shorts to round out the collection. Def the best Wings collection yet.
We carried P.A.M. a few seasons ago, and I’m excited to have the collection back in the shop. The fits are loose and modern, the prints are creative and the all around look of the collection is spot on.
I spent some time with my friend Pierre who’s denim line is really great: Denim Denom. Really enjoyed drinking this Schnapps, made by the indigenous people of Northern Sweden, at the Visvim showroom. I feel like I was drinking this stuff all week. Hoping I can share it with you as soon as Denim Denom hits our shelves.

Wood Wood had some cool graphic tee’s and knit sweaters. Lots and lots of knits for Spring 12.
Opening Ceremony Men’s was filled with tons of bright colors, mesh fabrics, striped knits and breezy outerwear.
Another new brand for Spring12: General Idea. We’ve been watching them for a few seasons now but Spring12 truly looks innovative and fresh. Love the short sleeves and multi fabrics. Their creative director wears it best…
Some women’s pre-collections were in Paris as well. Patrik Ervell is launching a women’s line, modeled almost exactly after his men’s line but in feminine silhouettes. The line looks beautiful, I’d really like to see how it fits.
Pamela Love jewels, which I always covet:

In between work sessions there’s always time for a little bit of play. Eating escargot at Hotel Costes (thanks Pierre!), filet Mignon at Chez Julien (thanks Rob!), tacos and super models behind neon signs, pride weekend gay bars and blisters from Miu Miu loafers.
