Valentine's Schmalentines!

Stuck on a last minute gift? Procrastinated on those reservations? Good old V-day is made easy with our statement piece suggestions about everything–from what to wear, to what to give.

What to wear, For Her:

Whether you’re dressing up or down, think pink, and go for something sort of sultry. A not-so-basic blouse by SILENT, an ode to modern romance with matching T by Alexander Wang crop top and skirt, girlish beach bomb set by Jonathan Simkhai, and a relaxed color-blocked sweatshirt from Second Female.

What to wear, For Him:

Whether you’ve asked someone out for the first time, or you’re spending the evening out with friends, for the boys it’s all about looking sharp and spendy. In a throwback to those American cowboys, Gitman Bros. does it right with a red bandana print, if you’re doing going for something a little more dressy Robert Geller’s neutral two-tone button-down flatters most, and in a nod towards the holiday’s reigning hue, Reigning Champ fits the bill, but if you really want to break hearts, wear BLK DNM’s version of James Dean over just about anything.

What to give, For Her:

Guys, don’t ask your chick if you two are exchanging gifts this year. Just don’t. Instead pick her up something special, even if it’s last minute, even if her birthday was a week ago–do it just because. A little piece of jewelry, like the horseshoe ring from TOMTOM or the Kyyote pyramid hoop earrings, personalizes the message. They say gifting shoes brings bad luck, but we think the person who said that must have had a real chip on their shoulder, because shoes are an easy go-to for any girl! The Orwells by Jeffrey Campbell are side-splitting sexy, and of course, angora is a girl’s best friend, but what you’re really saying with Second Female’s zebra knit, is “I love you all the time, even especially when you’re all covered up.”

What to give, For Him:

Dudes are notoriously harder to buy for than girls. So don’t break your back over that great guy who has you stumped. Think of something concise and simple–he’ll be stoked you thought of him since ladies get most of the traditional spoils on Vday. Tell him it’s not about his money, but what he keeps his money in with a Billy Kirk wallet, amazing best-selling Prospector beard oil, functional and chic Cote et Ciel bags are at the top of every dude’s wishlist, or a sensuous Gitman Bros. print covered in dirty magazine covers, appropriately titled “Call Me”.

And if you’re single…
